About SASCH
I would like to introduce the South African Society of Clinical Hypnosis (SASCH). SASCH is a division of the Psychological Society of South Africa (PsySSA) and for the past few years has been awarded the commendation for the most active division of the Society.
SASCH presents courses in clinical hypnosis to professionally registered psychologists, intern psychologists and registered Masters Psychology students.
Clinical hypnosis is a dynamic therapeutic intervention, which is time and cost effective, enabling the professional to stay within medical aid limits! The public interest in clinical hypnosis is growing rapidly as persons discover the benefits of undergoing clinical hypnosis. It is therefore important that trained professionals, rather than lay counsellors, offer clinical hypnosis with responsibility and expertise.
After completion of an elementary course in clinical hypnosis, a professional can undergo further training on intermediate and advanced level in four modalities of clinical hypnosis, to suit the personal therapeutic style of each psychologist.
The training usually consists of a four day course, (mostly run over weekends so as not to compromise income) at an affordable cost. The SASCH Elementary course is accredited with 35 points – the yearly points in one course!
The Society also presents one-day workshops on various topics, as well as an annual Congress.
SASCH also has five regional divisions to support members in other parts of the country.
SASCH is an active Society consisting of professionals who want to learn about and promote clinical hypnosis as a valuable, safe and effective therapeutic technique in the hands of a trained professional.
Basic 4 or 5 day training by certain other institutions is acknowledged, making further training by SASCH very accessible.
Please pass this information on to colleagues who might also be interested in training in clinical hypnosis.
You are welcome to contact the SASCH office for further information.

About Hypnosis
Hypnosis is increasingly recognized as an exceptionally powerful vehicle to facilitate and augment the efficacy of virtually any therapeutic approach.
Hypnosis is not a therapy in-and-of itself, but rather is an altered state of consciousness, in which virtually any mode of therapeutic intervention - from didactic training, or analytic exploration, to indirect or health psychology approaches - can often be more effectively & efficiently utilized to promote healing & growth.
In addition to this, the hypnotic state makes a wide variety of interventions possible that are simply unimaginable in “ordinary” talk-therapy!
Modern clinical hypnosis can often be effectively utilized in an almost unimaginably wide range of therapeutic conditions from the augmentation & facilitation of the effectiveness of “normal” psychotherapy, to the facilitation of the growth orientated approaches of Positive Psychology, even to the relief & resolution of the psychosomatic aspects of what are normally considered to be “medical” conditions!
In addition to this, the rapidly developing field of “Transpersonal Psychology”, is uniquely suited hypnotherapeutic intervention

•Integrative Clinical Hypnosis, &
•Medical Hypnoanalysis.

Workshops are also regularly arranged by the divisions of SASCH at various centres throughout the country helping you to stay in contact with your peers & to hone your skills.
Ego State Therapy
Intermediate & Advanced Level Training Courses In Ego State Therapy
Ego Sate Therapy was originally developed by John & Helen Watkins and is based on the neo-dissociation theory of Federn. Ego states can be considered to be “parts” - or functional states - of the personality. Having a variety of appropriate ego-states allows one to flexibly, spontaneously and appropriately respond in different & changing situations. Where the individual has been exposed to trauma, however, ego-states can become rigid and maladaptive, causing the individual to respond in ways which are inappropriate and inexplicable to the conscious mind and “unlike” one's “normal” self. This clear-cut therapeutic model provides a useful framework in which the origin of the problem can be explored and conflict amongst ego states resolved by a process of regression (on occasion and if appropriate), reframing and negotiation. This therapeutic approach is particularly useful working with dissociated states.
The intermediate level training course builds on the knowledge base obtained during the elementary level training with a primary focus on the philosophy &intervention strategies of this truly unique approach.
The advanced course makes extensive use of in-vivo treatment of actual patients to practically demonstrate the process of Ego-State Therapy & the resources the therapist can bring to bear in therapeutic situations.
Clinical Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy
Elementary Level Training Courses in Clinical Hypnosis & Hypnotherapy
The elementary level training in clinical hypnosis & hypnotherapy offered by SASCH is truly unique! The training provides a uniquely balanced blend of:
•Hypnotherapeutic theory of the various schools of hypnotherapy
•Exposure to a variety of hypnotherapeutic approaches & techniques, encouraging therapeutic flexibility and ensuring that you will e able to find a approach suited to your personality and therapeutic style, as well as
•Sufficient time to practice what you have learned.
Each elementary level training course presented by SASCH runs for five full days, and qualifies for 35 CEU credits, including three CEU credits for ethics
Integrative Clinical Hypnosis
Intermediate & Advanced Level Training Courses In Integrative Clinical Hypnosis
INTEGRATIVE CLINICAL HYPNOSIS is a multi-model, holistic, eclectic & integrative approach to hypnotherapy. The course has been specifically developed provide a holistic understanding of development, growth & pathology.
A primary intention of this training course is to assist the individual therapist to develop a flexible, eclectic and individual therapeutic philosophy and hypnotherapeutic approach, which allows for the incorporation of a wide variety of hypnotherapeutic techniques and modalities, including spiritual, analytic, direct & indirect techniques. The course places strong emphasis on the importance of spiritual & psychological growth & wellness as an integral part of therapy.
A unique aspect of the training course in Integrative Clinical Hypnosis is the incorporation of training in aspects of the Transpersonal Approaches to Clinical Hypnosis that is included in especially the advanced level training course.
Ericksonian Hypnotherapy
Ericksonian Hypnotherapy is based on the seminal & revolutionary work of Milton H. Erickson. The Ericksonian approach focuses on present & future course re-alignment (rather than past error- correction), and respects the uniqueness of each individual - therapy is therefore tailored and adjusted to the specific needs of the individual.
The therapeutic approach focuses on therapeutic outcome and is thus directed toward more effective functioning in the present and future through the disruption of maladaptive patterns of belief & behaviour, the development of inner resources and coping rategies, as well as the enhancement of well- being. As an example, metaphors - the language of the subconscious mind - are utilised in creative ways to bypass resistance & to promote change and growth
The intermediate level training course builds on the knowledge base obtained during the elementary level training with a primary focus on the philosophy & intervention strategies of this truly unique approach. The advanced course makes extensive use of in- vivo treatment of actual patients to practically demonstrate the process of Ericksonian therapy & the resources the therapist can bring to bear in therapeutic situations.
Medical Hypnoanalysis
Intermediate & Advanced Level Training Courses In Medical Hypnoanalysis
Medical Hypnoanalysis is a structured, brief, hypno-analytical & cognitive approach, utilizing the medical model of treatment, including:
•diagnosis (from the patients history),
•confirmation of diagnosis (using a Word Association Exercise & other projective techniques),
•focussed hypno-therapeutic interventions through specific and appropriate regressions, and
•cognitive restructuring and re-education
The approach provides an elegant model of psychopathology in which six specific functional states (or sub-conscious diagnoses) are defined Singly or in combination, these sub-conscious diagnoses fully explain any presenting symptom, and form the basis for the therapeutic intervention required for cure. A very strong emphasis is placed on the utilization and development of spiritual resources in the healing process
